Upper Kolab Dam
Situated at an impressive altitude of approximately 914.4 meters (3,000 feet) above sea level on the Kolab River, a Godavari tributary, the mighty Kolab Reservoir generates hydroelectric power. The Kolab Dam, stretching 646 meters (2,119 feet) in length and rising 55 meters (180 feet) in height, stands as the highest man-made dam at this elevation. The idea for the Kolab Dam originated during British rule and was eventually approved by the Government of Odisha in 1976, reaching completion in 1993. The adjacent Kolab Park, a botanical garden featuring around 200 varieties of flowering plants, beckons visitors for picnics and boating.

Maa Kantabaunsani Temple
The Maa Kantabaunsani Temple, also known as the Thorn Bamboo Goddess, is the most revered deity in Koraput. Nestled near NALCO Township in Damanjodi, she is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Durga. Unlike traditional temples, this sacred site lacks idols or grand structures, save for the entrance. Surrounded by a natural bamboo jungle, these bamboo trees thrive without human intervention, as they grow and wither on their own. It’s said that a hidden patakhanda(sword) guards the forest, and those with pure hearts can glimpse it, but beware, as only positive intentions are rewarded.
